Southern Hospitality.

We know some folks who've just moved up, within the last three months, from Durham to Boston. We know them 'cause I got no fewer than four phone calls from folks telling me to meet them, they are good folks, you better not let them come to town and not know anybody.  We were finally able to meet up with Sanders and Kate and have some dinner and we knew we'd found fast friends.

He's from Louisiana and his lovely wife is from Lynchburg, VA, and the other night they treated us to a wonderful dinner at their home in Brookline. It was the first time in five years I've gone into someone's home in Boston and felt really at home. Prolly cause it was filled with things that those with good taste in the South fill their homes with, and that includes friends and brown spirits and laughter. And another friend. Another ex-McKinneyite who moved here just two weeks ago from Boulder.

And, of course, they went all out, and celiac be damned, they cooked us dinner and watched the wheat and the hassle and they did it cause it's the kind of thing Southerners do.

So, while this isn't our thank you note (you do send out thank you notes after a dinner party, don't you? DON'T YOU?) it could just as easily serve as one. We had a ball. And we hope to return the favor real soon.
